History of images – History of Ideas

The ”History of images – History of ideas” Master’s Degree Course is an interdisciplinary programme that offers insight into the morphology and syntax of cultural images, and focuses on fields such as comparative literature, philosophy, history of religions, social and political sciences, music, fine arts and film. It covers the following core disciplines:
- Symbolic Histories and Symbolic Universes
- History and Imagination
- Literature and the Fine Arts
- The Imaginary of Femininity
- Icons and Reality: Religious Structures of Imagination
- Comparative Architecture
- Methods in the Study of Imagination
- Image Hermeneutics
- Western Counterculture Literature of the 1960’s: Modernism and Postmodernism
- Creative Writing and Logical Games: Critifiction
- Inter-art Dialogues: Literature and Music
- Image and Imagination in Auteur Movies
The entry requirements consist of a combination of interview and presentation. As part of the interview, candidates will deliver:
– A research project outline (preferably but not compulsorily related to the proposed Master’s dissertation) on a theme relating to image and imagination, three printed copies of which shall be handed upon submitting the application. The project is to include an Argument motivating the choice of the theme, a brief summary and a bibliography (3-4 pages in all). The proposed MA project will not reiterate the theme or content of the candidate’s BA thesis.
– A Curriculum Vitae that may but need not include a publication list. Candidates who have published articles in academic journals will attach copies of the articles to their CV.
The Master’s Degree course provides 12 subsidised openings and 15 non-subsidised openings
The process of submission of applications and the interviewing of the candidates take place annually, between 1-15 September.
